These anatomical illustrations were made by Nan Cheney in the Department of Anatomy at UBC. She was the first medical artist in the Faculty of Medicine at UBC and held the position from 1951 to 1962.

Anna Gertrude Lawson (Nan) Cheney was born June 22, 1897 in Windsor, Nova Scotia and died at age 88 on November 3, 1985. She enjoyed a close relationship with Emily Carr (“Dear Nan, Letters of Emily Carr, Nan Cheney and Humphrey Toms”, edited by Doreen Walker).
